An Interview with
Doris Mayo

For the sake of the people who don’t know you yet, kindly introduce yourself…
I am Doris Mayo from SFC Balibago. Just read on...

How long have you been in SFC?

I graduated June 2002 so that makes me 6 years old in the community.

So you’ve been in a lot of ministries? And been in a lot of places I guess…?
By God’s grace.

What SFC taught you then?
God is the most amazing thing that can ever happen to a person’s life. Life with Him is a life of surprises. You get to receive blessings even if you do not deserve them (I guess all people do) and become a blessing to other people despite your imperfection and brokenness. You may not understand His plans for your life - why certain things happen or do not happen, but in the end, He’ll make you see how true He is to His word that He has a future full of hope in store for each and everyone of us. He is a faithful God. He rewards the faithful. And I just love this verse from 1 Corinthians 2:9, “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love Him.” He should be our first love above everyone else, above everything else and everything will turn out for the best. And one thing more, this one I got from PDL – the heart of worship is surrender. If we claim to love God, we should trust Him completely with everything about us.

You were the Editor-in-Chief of our newspaper “The Herald”, how was it?
It was an unexpected service. I did not really have sufficient experience to lead the team but God made everything possible. I should say that writing for God makes me really come alive and working with passionate people in SFC (like you) makes it doubly fulfilling. And I hope that Herald had blessed people just how much it blessed the team and all those people who shared their talents in making it as an instrument to “herald” God’s love.

We missed that, when we will going to have another issue?
Seven, I feel like I am being interviewed in Kerygma (hehehe). When do you want to have another issue? I guess it’s just a matter of timing. Let’s pray about it.

And now, you are our new PFO head of SFC Laguna, officially?
How does it feel?

By God’s grace. At first, I was afraid to take the service. I came from a season of lamentation because of a lot of not-well-discerned decisions in the past and I was really afraid to make the same mistakes again. But I believe that taking the service is a way of starving my fear and feeding my faith. PFO work is really big and heavy but I totally rely on God’s love and grace to help me love Him more through this service.

You’re working now at what company? As what position? Hmmm…you seem very busy…how do you manage your time for your work, family and service in SFC?
I am a Research and Development Specialist in Monde Nissin Corp. (maker of Lucky Me and Voice, Sumo, Eggnog, etc.). Simply put, taga-timpla at taga-tikim ng noodles at biscuits. Balancing everything is something that I am still learning continuously. I make this mind map of the roles that God had given me to play and I post it in my bedroom to always remind me that on top of being an SFC, I am also a daughter, a sister, a tita, a friend, a professional, a person. Daily prayer and occasional reflection also help me to check and balance everything out. Learning how to say no so I can say a deeper yes to a role that I need to say yes at a specific time is also something that I am trying to develop. Priorities need to be set differently at different times.

In a relationship ryt now?GG?
Relationship are of many kinds. But if you mean the romantic type, uhmm, next question please. Hehehe. Let’s just say that I am in a state of discovering myself yet and again, going through options and learning more about men (because there are still a lot to know about men) and basically what is that kind or relationship that I really need. Hohumm… I guess there are things that need to be done first and I just believe and hope and trust God that when I am ready and when His gift is ready, He will make the world conspire for us to be together…

I always wonder about the “Chronicles of Doritos”, (hehehe)
Can you tell us about it?

Do you mean my multiply site? I guess every person has a story to tell. Chronicles of Doritos shows my life behind the scenes, the people and events that make me the person that I am, the places that splashed color to my life, and all the experiences I had. I am really not a techie person, but somehow, maintaining this site helps me to connect with people in a simplistic way. You just share photos with other people (especially SFC’s) and write comments which is the most fun part of it. I get to write blogs here to share the good things and the not-so-good things about myself to others hoping that it will bless them just like how I am being blessed by reading their blogs.
Hmmm, about the name, Chronicles of Doritos originally refers to my super long (worthy of the term chronicle) series of journal entries during my period of lamentations. It helped me keep my sanity. Hehehe, I just thought that extending it as my multiply site name would always remind me that I should always be thankful heart to have survived that period in my life. And also, using it again means that my life’s story goes on… take time to visit www.dorismayo.multiply.com

Now, who is Doris in and outside the community of SFC?
Hmm, based on what I am aware of, I am obsessive-compulsive (but milder now), organized daw but I actually work best in an organized mess, quite serious (hehehe), and passionate daw on something that I strongly believe in (walang tigil basta may nasimulan). I guess that these are true inside and outside SFC. People say that I am a source of inspiration to them but actually, I am very human in so many ways. I am still a work in progress, still a big work for that matter. And I guess, just like everyone else, I am relatively more pasaway outside the community… I still have a lot to learn about loving other people…. I love writing, singing, reading, chatting and listening to other people, gardening, traveling… (sorry, feeling ko slumbook ko ‘to, hehehe)

"I am very human in so many ways. I am still a work in progress…”

Any message or words you want to say for us?
Remember that God is the greatest and His love for us is the greatest. So let’s do all we can do for Him with great love (in whatever roles He had blessed us with) because there is no other way to find joy in our lives. Let’s live for His love and by His love. Love deeply, live fully.
